FAQ

Questions that we think you might have…

Why are there only 100 1st Edition Sliver & 30 1st Edition Gold Great Lakes Ships 2022 cards in a one Box?

There is a 1st Edition Basic Great Lakes Ships 2022 Box. We have 150 boxes. Secondly, we have 1st Edition Stater Boxes which is not a complete set; it will have 105 cards per box. Print runs are estimated to be 100 Boxes altogether.

We are doing this way slightly different than most traditional cards, with 1st Editions Gold Pack combining Gold and Silver in one box. With the 1st Edition Silver Pack, we will only have Silver cards. This is mainly due to bringing buyers to make Kickstarter more successful and for them to have a unique collection. Therefore, we have to be very specific with the amount of each card we print. This way, all Gold and Silver cards are to be specially printed in the Basic Pack. We think this is the best way to do it for our product.

What happened if Kickstarter Brackets max out?

If this is the case, we will expand more brackets once it suppresses the goal. The Gold Box and Silver Box will not be available in the market, only Basic Box and Starter Box will be in a bracket once the Kickstarter is over.

So what does the full print run look like?

We like the idea of full transparency, so here are all the numbers you want to know!

Our calculations are as follows:

  • 80,565 Total Card Production
  • 2,450 1st Edition Silver (Silver)
  • 250 1st Edition Gold (Gold)

Number of…

  • 1st Edition Basic Great Lakes Ships 2022 Boxes – 150
  • 1st Edition Silver Boxes – 100
  • 1st Edition Gold Boxes – 30
  • Individual Packs – 1,000 = 100 Starter Boxes

Half of the total production run will be available to backers on Kickstarter. The second half will be distributed between local stores and online stores.

Those are big numbers for new Trading Cards. Do you expect to sell them all?

We want as many people to have access to 1st Edition Great Lakes Ships 2022 cards. It may take 3, 6 months, a year to sell out, maybe longer. As long as more people have access to the cards, then we are happy.

But we do understand that it’s good to have a healthy secondary market. And we believe there will be. The value will be in opening packs and finding those super rare Ships cards. And maybe even the Edmund Fitzgerald card!

What about an unlimited print run?

We will never produce reprints or an unlimited set. However, if long term there is high demand in return we will have a Great Lakes Ships 2.0 set planned, but don’t worry this won’t involve any reprints. It will be limited. Before that, we do have plans for many more sets. We won’t forget about the ships that are long scraped and retired, there’ll be plenty more to collect!

What is the future of Great Lakes Trading Cards?

This is just the beginning. We see the Great Lakes Trading Cards brand as much more than just a card collection. So what will come next? The limited edition aspect of the brand will always remain at the core. Merchandise of all kinds will be available soon after the Great Lakes Trading Cards launch, and in the longer term supporting future “Ship to Cargo,” games would be the goal, along with much much more…
